My version of Sabriel's bell bandolier from the Garth Nix Old Kingdom series. -A combination of the book cover art and the decription in the text. Made with pleather, metal studs, leather cording, and foam.
Where did you find that series of bells?
This literally makes me wanna cry with jealously and want. If you every wanna sell any of this cosplay... I would so pay and amazing amount for it. It looks so perfect. Why can't I be this talented... So yeah if you want sell another bell bandolier... I would probably pay for it.
would you consider making one to sell?
I've definitively thought about it. With the right measurements, no problem, but it takes a fair amount of time. The stitching is all done by hand, and gets difficult at the thicker areas on the bandolier. For the right price, I would consider it.
This turned out awesome! Very faithful to the book. Where on earth did you find those great bells though? Handbell sets are so hard to find!
Thanks! I love the Sabriel cover art, but the handles are supposed to hang down... So I used the book description along with the cover art for Liral in Abhorsen. As for the bells, that was alot of ebay searching! In the end, I painted the bell handles to match the largest bell, and added silver tips to the bells that didn't have it so they all would match. Some of the bells were bronze, so I painted those with alcohol based metal paint. So glad you like it!
This is what I want more than anything someday when I have the money to create it. I have loved this book series for 10 years now and I always come back to wanting my own bell bandolier.
There are alot of materials you can use instead of leather. It just takes some time to put together. You should totally make one. You'll feel so glad you have it.
I love the entire cosplay and I can tell you've put lots of hard work into all of it, but this bandolier with the bell cases is by far the most impressive piece in my opinion. Those things are hard to make, but you seem to have made a stable design. When I talked with you at CONvergence you were wearing the bandolier with the handles down, but I was wondering if your cases were strong enough to support the bells' weight when they have to support the bells from the opposite direction, like they must on the cover of Sabriel. Anyway, fantastic job!
Thankyou! I designed the bandolier mostly from the book, and the cover art for "Abhorsen." The pouches are sturdy enough to hold the bells upside down, but the belt is designed to hug the body when the handles hang down. If someone wanted to make the bandolier with the bell handles up, I believe this type of pouch design is sturdy enough.
"People & Portraits"? Don't think so. There is a cosplay category somewhere under artisan crafts -> costumes. Would be better.
Thanks, just got that updated. The portrait-cosplay setting works for most of my past pics. But, since these are progress pics, artisan crafts-cosplay works better.
Oh wowowowowow. Awesome! One of my favorite series, and you really brought that accessory to life here. Looks well-made!
